Instructor Carlos M. Suarez has been involved in the study and practice of the martial arts for over twenty years. Carlos began his training at the age of 14, in his hometown of Bogotá, Colombia, where he was instructed by Master Alfonso Rodriguez Diaz in the discipline of Hap-Ki-do.
In 1989, Carlos moved to the United States, where he found he had an opportunity to learn and explore many other styles in the martial arts. After searching for some time for a style that contained the elements of self-defense, but also was beneficial for mind and spirit, Carlos began his training in Chinese martial arts. In 1994 he began studying Shuai- Chiao (Chinese wrestling), Chang style Tai chi and Shaolin kung fu under Sifu Alexander Knight. Five years later, he sought instruction from Sensei Stephanie Yap, in th Japanese art of Aikido. In 2001 Carlos began training in the art of Choy lay fut kung fu, with Sifu Liu Siu Hung.
Searching for a deeper connection to himself and an art that would lead him to a higher level in his training, Carlos next found himself at the doorstep of Chung's Kung fu and Tai Chi academy. In 2006 Carlos began studying under Sifu Andrew Chung in the internal arts of Tai Chi Chuan, Bagua, Hsing-I, as well as Dragon style (Lung Ying) Kung fu. Carlos currently continues his studies under Sifu Chung, and also assists him in teaching Chinese kung fu and Tai chi at Chung's academy in Ft. Lauderdale and Boca Raton, Florida.
